Young Alumni Picnic (Alumni)

Sunshine, music, and smiles prevailed as McDonogh’s young alums kicked off their summer at the inaugural picnic held on campus on June 20. Alums from the classes of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and McDonogh’s newest graduates, the Class of 2006, reunited with fellow classmates, faculty, and staff. Headmaster Bo Dixon made an appearance to welcome everyone home.

Third Grade Scientists Shine at Science Fair (Students)

Third graders confidently explained their science fair projects and fielded questions from classmates, teachers, and family members on Wednesday afternoon, May 17.

Sophomore Oratory Finals (Students)

Upper schoolers gathered in Ceres M. Horn Theatre on Thursday, May 11 to hear the five finalists in the 26th annual sophomore class oratory competition.

Lower School Imagination Celebration (Students)

During April, every Lower School student had an art project on display in Elderkin Hall as part of Imagination Celebration. The official opening of the event took place on April 7 with "An Evening with Lower School Arts," when students and their guests had an opportunity to view the Imagination Celebration artwork and enjoy musical performances by The Lower School Choir, The Bell Choir, and The String and Recorder Ensembles.

Cum Laude Society Celebration (Students)

The Upper School community gathered on April 26 to celebrate the induction of 13 seniors and 12 juniors into McDonogh's chapter of the Cum Laude Society, a national honor society recognizing academic achievement.

Housekeeping Staff Named Unsung Heroes (Students)

During the Middle School morning meeting on May 3, the sixth grade students and teachers honored McDonogh’s unsung heroes, the housekeeping staff.

Reunion Weekend 2006 (Alumni)

Several hundred McDonogh graduates returned to campus on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 to celebrate five-year milestone reunions.

Company (Students)

The MRAC presented Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s innovative musical comedy, Company April 28-30. This is the story of Bobby, a thirty-something single Mannhattanite who surrounds himself with a group of loving, needy, neurotic married friends and the occasional weekend girlfriend.

Chesapeake Dream Premiere (Students)

A colorful cast of bay critters and middle school students took the stage of Ceres M. Horn Theatre for the premiere of the original musical, Chesapeake Dream on Friday April 21. Additional performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Dr. Mike Riera Demystified Adolescence for Parents (Students)

Practically every seat was taken in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre on Monday evening, April 10, when renowned author and parenting correspondent for the CBS Saturday Early Show Dr. Mike Riera took the stage to help parents better understand their teenagers. Mike was available after the program to meet parents and sign copies of his book, Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers.

First Grade "Bugz" Performance (Students)

Every bug imagineable was present for the first grade production of "Bugz." A good time was had by all... even with stink bugs as members of the cast!

Alumni Reception in New York City (Alumni)

McDonogh alumni gathered for a reception in New York City on March 30.

Lower School Beach Day Celebration (Students)

Students enjoyed the annual Lower School Beach Day celebration on March 10 with summer dress, ice cream, and a special assembly that ended with the official start of spring break.

Sophomores' Golf Challenge (Students)

Looking to beat the winter doldrums and win free dress for their entire class, two sophomores challenged Headmaster Bo Dixon to a round of golf on a makeshift course on campus before spring break.

Upper School Students Visit McDonogh 26 (Students)

During spring break eleven Upper School students and three chaperones traveled to New Orleans on a service mission to support McDonogh 26.

Mr GQ 2006 (Students)

John T. was crowned Mr. GQ 2006 on March 24. Nine contestants participated in the annual competition. All proceeds benefit a charity of the winner's choosing.

Slave Manifest Art Projects (Students)

Upper School Art 1 students interpreted the lives of John McDonogh's slaves with mixed media on canvas.

Faculty Follies (Teachers)

A benefit to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief, this variety show featured McDonogh's faculty and staff.

Brown Bears Aid McDonogh 26 (Students)

Ms. Flint's Brown Bears kindergarten class earned money and made cards to be delivered to McDonogh 26 by a delegation of upper schoolers headed to New Orleans during Spring Break.

Multicultural Evening (Events)

The McDonogh community enjoyed a "Celebration of Unity" on Friday, March 3.

Third Grade Biography Day (Students)

Third graders took the stage of Horn Theatre as patriots, doctors, athletes, authors, artists, and many others for American Biography Day on March 1.

Baltimore Reception (Alumni)

The Alumni Office hosted a reception for Baltimore-area alumni on Wednesday, February 22 at the Center Club downtown.

Mardi Gras Run (Students)

More than 200 upper schoolers and teachers celebrated Fat Tuesday with a Mardi Gras run after school to benefit the McDonogh 26 community. The Rollins-Luetkemeyer Leaders organized the race, which raised over $600.

Lower School Celebrates 100th Day of School (Students)

Students throughout the Lower School could be found with 100 items, from candy to stickers, stuck to their clothes as they celebrated the 100th day of school on Tuesday, February 21.

Black History Assembly (Students)

The BAC celebrated Black History Month during a special Upper School assembly in Horn Theatre on February 16.

McDonogh Idol Coffeehouse (Students)

Seventh graders took to the stage of the Osborne Black Box Theatre on February 10 to perform in "McDonogh Idol."

Singing Valentine's Day Messages (Students)

The Gentlemen Songsters and Women of Note serenade students and faculty with Valentine's Day messages.

Eighth Notes Coffee House (Students)

The Eighth Notes impressed two sold-out audiences with their New Orleans-style review in the Black Box Theatre on February 3 and 4. They raised more than $230 in donations for Katrina Relief.

MIAA Wrestling Champs (Athletics)

McDonogh and Mt. St. Joseph wrestling traded the #1 ranking all season, until the teams met in a dual meet on February 3 and McDonogh came out on top.

IAAM Swimming Champs (Athletics)

The girls' swim team won the IAAM A Conference championship at UMBC on Sunday, February 5.

Chicago Alumni Reception (Alumni)

McDonogh's Alumni Office hosted Chicago-area alumni at McFadden's Restaurant downtown on January 30.

McDonogh Dances (Students)

The Upper School Dance Ensemble wowed audiences at McDonogh Dances on January 28 and 29. The routines were choreographed by Dance Program Director Ilona Kessell and several students.

2006 Track Champs (Athletics)

The boys' and girls' winter track teams won league championship titles on Friday, January 20 at the Prince Georges Sports and Learning Complex.

Grades 3-4 Peace and Light (Students)

The annual Celebration of Peace and Light on December 21 featured the third and fourth grades.

Famous People Mingle and Munch (Students)

Today's "Famous People Mingle and Munch" allowed sixth-graders to turn an ordinary biography project into an extraordinary one. Dressed as those they studied, students shared life stories and chatted with other famous people from all points in history and walks of life. They mingled first, then they munched on doughnuts and juice.

Kindergarten Kwanzaa Celebration (Students)

The Holt famiy, clad in festive African attire, celebrated Kwanzaa with the kindergarten classes.

Third Graders Visit Washington, D.C. (Students)

Third graders visited the National Gallery of Art, the National Air and Space Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on a recent field trip to Washington, D.C.

2005 Golf Outing (Alumni)

Despite overcast skies and chilly temperaturess, McDonogh alumni, parents and friends teed off at The Country Club of Maryland on Monday, October 10 for the 30th Annual McDonogh Golf Classic. A record number of participants (21 foursomes and 3 threesomes) enjoyed lunch, a full round of golf, dinner and prizes. Congratulations to first-place threesome of Joan Harris, Gary Clark '60 and Jim Forestell '60. A big thank-you to the sponsors for supporting the Alumni Association and its future activities. Jr. Pin Dinner and Ceremony (Students)

Juniors enjoyed another rite of passage at McDonogh School on Wednesday, September 28, as they celebrated receiving their school pins during a dinner served by the upper school faculty.

Mclympics 2005 (Students)

Sixth graders cheered on their classmates as they competed in this year's McLympics events, including ballon popping, egg race, tennis shoe relay, potato sack race, tug-of-war and the overall McLympic relay.

Alumni Art Opening (Alumni)

Members of the McDonogh community gathered on September 22 for the opening of the new Alumni Art Exhibit entitled, "We've Come This Far." The exhibit is being held in the Tuttle Gallery through October 28.
