Cardboard Boat Race Postponed (5/24)

Due to rain and heavy wind, the Cardboard Boat Race scheduled for Friday, May 24 has been moved to Wednesday, May 29 beginning with the Parade of Boats at 12:30 p.m. and the race at 1:00 p.m.

Girls Lax Ranked No. 1 in National Poll (5/22)

McDonogh was ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Girls' Lacrosse National Top 25 poll released on May 21.

Book Donation Excites Students (5/20)

Cindy Chambers, the creator of the Beamer book series visited McDonogh on May 16 to deliver twelve sets of her books to Lower School classrooms, library and infirmary.

Students of German Earn Awards (5/17)

Gluckwunsch (congratulations) to twelve McDonogh students of German, who were honored for their high achievement on the National High School German Test.

Girls Lax Team Takes Title (5/14)

Congratulations to the girls varsity lacrosse team on claiming their fifth straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference Lacrosse Championship title and for winning their 91st consecutive game.

Mules Headmaster House Dedicated (4/30)

An intimate group of family and friends gathered at the home of Headmaster Charlie Britton on the evening of April 24 for a ceremony to officially rename the house in honor of former Headmaster William C. Mules ’59.

Shriver Shares Advice at Cum Laude Induction (4/30)

It was an emotional homecoming for McDonogh alumna Pam Shriver ’79, the guest speaker at the Annual Initiation of Members into the McDonogh School Chapter of the Cum Laude Society on April 29.

Kindergartners Show Compassion for Animals (4/30)

McDonogh’s kindergartners have spent the year learning how to show compassion toward all kinds of animals, from bugs and birds to homeless cats, dogs, and horses neglected by their owners.

Local author and illustrator Jonathan Scott Fuqua had the fourth graders mesmerized as he shared stories of how he makes reading and writing fun.

Peter Backof '02 Shares Obama Campaign Experience (4/8)

Peter Backof ’02 admits that when he was in Upper School at McDonogh he wasn’t really motivated by math, which is why his job crunching numbers as a member of the Obama Campaign seems somewhat ironic.

A Superhero Soars (4/8)

Jonathan Waller ’00 has come full circle. As a McDonogh student he was involved in theater under the direction of English teacher Jon Aaron. April 12-14, Waller’s talents returned to McDonogh in the form of A Superhero, a musical he both wrote and composed. Directed by Middle School English Jon Aaron, it was a full-scale production featuring more than 30 students and faculty as well as a 20-piece orchestra comprised of 11 musicians from the school’s music department and nine professionals.

A Superhero Inspires Artists (4/8)

What are your fears and how would you overcome them? If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be and what would you look like? What qualities and characteristics would make your dreams come true? These are just some of the questions posed to art students throughout the school as they embarked on projects to reflect the themes of the upcoming musical A Superhero, composed by Jonathan Waller ’00.

Lower School Chess Champs (4/2)

The McDonogh Lower School Chess Team placed third in the Primary School Varsity division of the state championships on Saturday, March 9.

Girls Lacrosse Wins 72 Straight Games (3/20)

The girls varsity lacrosse team is continuing its winning ways. The Eagles haven't lost since April 2009, and the last time they were defeated by a Maryland team was in 2008.

MECHDonogh Eagles Win Rookie All-Star Award (3/5)

On March 1-2, our own MechDonogh Eagles (Team 4505) traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York to compete in the Finger Lakes Regional for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition.

Sophomores Perform Macbeth (3/4)

On February 21 and 22, students in several sophomore English classes demonstrated a deep understanding of Shakespeare’s language and characters as they performed love scenes, murder scenes, and fight scenes from Macbeth for their classmates.

DNA: Discovering New Aspects (2/27)

On Friday, February 22, approximately 260 Upper School students from area independent schools attended "DNA: Discovering New Aspects," a conference hosted by D4M (McDonogh for Diversity).

Eighth Grader Wins Center for Talented Youth Essay Contest (2/26)

Zahra K. ’17 was the eighth grade grand prize winner in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Race and Politics Essay Contest held earlier this winter. More than 120 Baltimore-area students in grades 6 through 8 entered the competition.

First African American Student Speaks at Black History Month Assembly (2/21)

During the Middle School Black History Month Assembly on February 15, students were all ears as John Milton Belcher ’71, the first African American to attend McDonogh School, talked to them about super powers, crossing boundaries, affirmative action, perspective, and a solution for world peace.

George C. '14 Named Maryland Soccer Player of the Year (2/20)

Junior midfielder George C. '14 has been named the 2012-13 Gatorade Maryland Boys Soccer Player of the Year. This honor puts George in the running for the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

DeVane's Work in NYC Museum (1/2)

The work of Oletha DeVane, Head of Upper School Visual Arts, will be part of an upcoming exhibition, “Ashe’ to Amen: African-Americans and Biblical Imagery,” at the Museum of Biblical Art in New York City. The show, which explores the ways African Americans have expressed their religious beliefs throughout history, will be on display from February 15 through May 26.

Eagles Clinch Raymond B. Oliver Invitational Title (12/3)

McDonogh wrestlers competed against some of the best Mid- Atlantic teams in the 41st annual Raymond B. Oliver Tournament held here on November 30 through December 2. The Eagles dominated and won their second straight title.

McDonogh Named Top Workplace by The Baltimore Sun and Sun Magazine (11/30)

McDonogh has been selected as one of The Baltimore Sun Top Workplaces, receiving the #1 ranking in the mid-size category.

Concert Choir tours Spain, Andorra, and France (7/22)

When the McDonogh’s Concert Choir broke out in an impromptu concert in Pele du Pont (the Pope’s Palace) in Avignon, France recently, a young European couple stopped and asked chaperone Libet Ottinger if the choir was doing any more performances.
