The Interview

While many colleges do not offer interviews, many schools suggest or require them. The interview is an opportunity for the college to get to know you personally, to learn things about you that can’t be captured on paper. It’s really just a “getting to know you” conversation.

Like the essay, the interview should represent you – the genuine you who will potentially join this community next year. So what should you do?Be yourself!

Don’t

  • use a false vocabulary
  • misrepresent what you’ve done or what you plan to do
  • anticipate what you think they want you to say

Do

  • shake hands firmly and look your interviewer in the eye
  • respond honestly and enthusiastically to the questions you’re asked
  • be okay with the fact that you might not have an answer for everything
  • dress neatly and casually – there’s no need for formalwear
  • BE YOURSELF – that’s interesting enough
