Teacher Recommendations
Select teachers in different academic disciplines who have taught you in your junior or senior year. Teachers should:
- be able to confirm your passion for learning
- speak to your achievements
- know you well
- be supportive of your interests
How to get a teacher recommendation:
- Ask “Would you be willing to write a positive recommendation for me?”
- Ask as soon as you have your list together.
- Fill out the form in the College Counseling Office with the list of schools to which you are applying.
- Give a copy of the form to each teacher who is writing you a recommendation.
NOTE: teachers usually write one letter of recommendation that can be sent to multiple colleges. They will save the letter in case you add other schools to your list.
- Teachers will email completed recommendation letters to colleges.
- You do not need to send more than the required number of recommendations. The saying in Admissions is “the thicker the file, the thicker the kid.”
- Thank your teachers with a note.
