Teacher Recommendations

Select teachers in different academic disciplines who have taught you in your junior or senior year. Teachers should:

  • be able to confirm your passion for learning
  • speak to your achievements
  • know you well
  • be supportive of your interests

  • How to get a teacher recommendation:
  • Ask “Would you be willing to write a positive recommendation for me?”
  • Ask as soon as you have your list together.
  • Fill out the form in the College Counseling Office with the list of schools to which you are applying.
  • Give a copy of the form to each teacher who is writing you a recommendation.

NOTE: teachers usually write one letter of recommendation that can be sent to multiple colleges. They will save the letter in case you add other schools to your list.

  • Teachers will email completed recommendation letters to colleges.
  • You do not need to send more than the required number of recommendations. The saying in Admissions is “the thicker the file, the thicker the kid.”
  • Thank your teachers with a note.
